13 things you should know about.
I tried to keep this under $100. I really did. I love getting something great for what feels like a bargain. It’s what Hidden Gems is all about. However, I’m finding that the only things under $100 that I think you should know about are fast fashion, costume jewelry, and affordable home goods. While there’s nothing wrong with buying those things, especially if that’s what your budget allows, I started to feel like I was sharing cheap things for the sake of sharing cheap things.
Finding and sharing the cool things I come across is my favorite part of showing up here, to be honest. I love the thrill of the hunt and the satisfaction of getting something that fills a need or want. (I love it when you tell me you got it, too!) While I enjoyed the challendge of constraining to $100 or less, I ended up not sharing other affordable finds because they cost a little more. More often than not, I’m willing to spend a little more for a better product because I know I’ll actually want to keep and use it. I don’t like it when my things feel disposable or cheap.
To allow room to share things that are more true to how I shop and things I would excitedly add to my wishlist, I’m removing the threshold. That doesn’t mean you won’t find things under $100 here! (The leave-in conditioner I just ordered is under $50 and you’ll still catch me perusing H&M.) It also means that you’ll find more than just products here. Sometimes I’ll throw in a podcast episode, an article that captured my attention, something that made me laugh, or maybe a new launch or a book that’s on my radar.
I hope you don’t mind the switch up!
Someboedy tell Chanston to book a trip so I can get weird tanlines from this swimsuit.
I’m in the market for a nice dress that’s easy to throw on, but still looks like I put effort into my look. This cotton midi is a front runner.
I’m becoming more obessed with SPF by the day and I’m unashamed. I care about my skin! Eadem has entered the SPF space with sunscreen and blurring primer. I need to see this on my face.
I haven’t met a minimalist t-strap sandal I didn’t like.
Orange blossom, white florals and salty vanilla?! Oh, this fragrance might be good for summer.
The Ring Concierge spring sale is live. Get 20% off fine jewelry sitewide, like this wrap ring or diamond station necklace.
How cute would tulips be in this vase?! I also want to pack it with peonies.
I’m considering getting a few of these baby tees to wear with jeans and sweats while I WFH. Worn with a necklace, earrings, and a hint of makeup will have me video call ready. (I have a strong feeling these are about to be 60% off for MDW so I’m eyeing them too.)
I wouldn’t mind a lighweight hair moisturizer for summer when anything heavy is a no-go. This leave-in conditioner might do the trick, plus tame frizz.
Our favorite sechondhand site is coming out with a book later this year. I don’t think we need another book about finding your style in general, but I’m intrigued to see TRR’s take on it.
PF Candle Co. had incense and a candle called No. 31: Cannabis that I adored. It wasn’t skunky at all, but earthy, a little fresh, and grounding. They discontinued it, and I’ve been searching for a comparable scent ever since. This candle has been on my radar for years. I keep balking at the price, but it might be time to just buy the small one and find out if I like it.
This dress is perfect for all summer daytime functions.
Articles of Interest just released a new episode and newsletter about why the ultra wealthy dress do boring. While I’ve stopped caring about what they do through the lens of emulation, I enjoy the anthropology of how we got here.
That’s all for this week. Paid subscribers will get Hidden Gems in their inboxes tomorrow morning. Otherwise, I’ll see you Sunday!
